Thermage™ Body Contouring is a non-invasive treatment that can smooth, tighten, and contour the skin. It uses controlled radiofrequency energy to stimulate the body’s natural process of regeneration for a youthful-looking appearance.
This creates a gradual improvement and natural-looking outcome without the need for injections or incisions that are associated with other body contouring treatments like liposuction and tummy tuck.
The Problem
Losing a significant amount of weight is a feat in itself. This is a testament to your dedication and determination to improve your body and well-being.
However, when you finally lose the extra pounds, the skin might not have the opportunity or ability to retract and tighten the way you want it to. This is true, especially for women who have struggled with post-pregnancy body weight.
What makes matters worse is the fact that the collagen in our skin breaks down and diminishes production as we age. This is reflected in the skin by way of wrinkles and fine lines on the face and sagging in other parts of the body. For most people, the usual problem areas include the abdomen, back, arms, buttocks, thighs and legs.
Skin sagging can create different kinds of problems for anyone who is bothered by it. It can create aesthetic and functional issues that should warrant close attention. But if the extent of sagging has not yet advanced, non-surgical interventions can be used to correct and improve the skin.
The Treatment
Thermage™ Body Contouring uses radiofrequency technology to safely heat the deeper layers of the skin and stimulate collagen renewal. It is a skin tightening alternative for anyone with mild to moderate laxity to the skin.
Unlike the older Thermage device, what we use at the clinic comes with Comfort Pulse Technology or CPT. This is designed to address the discomfort associated with the treatment. It comes with pulses and vibrations to the skin to prevent any painful sensation. It also comes with a cooling mechanism to soothe the area after it is exposed to the dermal heating action of radiofrequency energy.
The treatment spares the surface layer and safely focuses the energy in targeting the deeper layers. Skin renewal occurs from the inside out.
The Results
A one-time session of the treatment can help tighten and firm up the skin, especially in areas that are hard to target with regular exercise. The following results can be expected:
1. It helps achieve flatter skin on the tummy, legs, thighs, buttocks, arms and hands.
2. It firms and tones love handles and unwanted bulges.
3. It softens the wrinkles on the knees, arms, hands and legs.
4. It improves the overall skin texture of the treated area.
5. It helps to improve the appearance of cellulite.
6. It improves saggy jowls, turkey neck and double chin.
However, it is important to know that Thermage™ only for mild to moderate skin laxity. Severe sagging is best treated with surgical treatments, like a tummy tuck.
Downtime
Since the action and effect of the procedure happen within the inner layers of the skin, there is no damage to the surface of the skin. This means that there is no downtime to the treatment, and you can return to your daily activities after you step out of the clinic.
Complementary Treatments
For a holistic result, it can be done together with Thermage™ CPT Non-Surgical Facelift. Using the same radiofrequency energy, this treatment involves recalibrating the device to address issues of skin laxity on the face.
It can also be done together with other skin rejuvenation treatments, like Dermal Fillers, Laser Skin Resurfacing, or Botox Injections.
Cost
The cost for a Thermage™ Body Contouring at Dr. Tyng Tan Aesthetics and Hair Clinic will depend on the area that will be treated and the number of sessions needed to achieve the desired result. This will be discussed after a careful and thorough assessment of your skin condition during your consultation.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
READ OUR FAQ’S ON THERMAGE™ BODY CONTOURING AT DR TYNG TAN AESTHETICS AND HAIR CLINIC.
1. HOW IS THERMAGE™BODY CONTOURING DONE?
Prior to the treatment, the predetermined area will be marked with grid lines by your doctor. Once this has been done, the Thermage™ Body Contouring handheld device will be used to deliver the radio frequency to the innermost layer of the skin. You may feel a heating sensation every time the device touches your skin, but this will be tolerable. Thermage CPT takes no chances for any discomfort as a cooling sensation comes before and after each pulse.
Usually, the pain is tolerable. But if you are pain sensitive, your doctor will apply a topical numbing cream prior to the procedure. She will constantly monitor you during the course of the treatment to ensure your comfort.
2. DOES THE TREATMENT HURT?
A slight discomfort may be experienced during the treatment which is well-tolerated by most patients. Any painful sensation can be buffered by the cooling spray that comes with the device. It is designed with Comfort Pulse Technology (CPT), which delivers the heat in several pulses instead of a single blow. This allows the doctor to cover a wider area with minimal discomfort to the patient.
3. HOW LONG DOES THE THERMAGE TREATMENT TAKE?
4. HOW SOON WILL I SEE THE RESULTS?
Patients will start to notice a tightening action after the treatment. This will continue to improve over the next few months as the skin’s collagen continues to regenerate.
5. HOW MANY SESSIONS DO I NEED TO SEE THESE RESULTS?
Typically, you will only need one session for noticeable and natural-looking results (Anolik et.al., 2009). But, the results will only last for up to six months to a year. A follow-up treatment will be needed to maintain the results.
The procedure will be further discussed in detail during your consultation with Dr. Tyng Tan. This will allow her to make a comprehensive assessment of your skin condition and identify the areas that need contouring and tightening.
