The Problem
As we age, the inner layer of the skin, or dermis, eventually loses both collagen and elastin, which are important components in maintaining the skin’s plumpness, softness and suppleness. This loss weakens the support structure of the skin.
At the same time, the outer layer of the skin, called the epidermis, becomes thin and gradually loses its ability to retain moisture. Fat loss will also gradually occur in the deepest layer of the skin. With these three changes happening at the same time, the skin sags, while fine lines and wrinkles start to manifest.
Repeated expressions like laughing, frowning, or squinting causes the muscles that control it to push and etch the skin to form a pattern. The loss of skin elasticity and support creates the opportunity for fine lines to form.
Aside from the natural process of ageing, exposure to harmful UV rays can aggravate the formation of facial lines. Prolonged and unprotected exposure to sunlight damages the skin’s collagen and elastin fibres. Furthermore, cigarette smoking, environmental pollutants, and even a poor skin care regimen can contribute and hasten the formation of wrinkles and fine lines.
The Treatment
Hyaluronic acid is among the common and recommended fillers mainly because it is safe and non-allergenic. It is a natural substance found in the body, which functions as a cushion and lubrication in the tissues. It is also efficient in hydrating the skin by attracting and locking in moisture. Consequently, it improves the skin’s structure and elasticity. Hyaluronic acid is also tissue-friendly, which means it doesn’t damage the natural skin tissues and is safely absorbed by the body.
Dr Tyng Tan Aesthetics and Hair Clinic uses high-grade hyaluronic acid, among dermal filler patients to replace the volume and smooth out superficial wrinkles and fine lines. Therefore, it is directed into the areas of the skin where facial lines have formed.
Downtime
There is no downtime to the procedure. You can return to your daily activities the moment you step out of the clinic. However, it is important that the treated area must not be exposed to sunlight or any forms of pressure 2 to 3 days after the procedure.
Complementary Treatments
Dermal fillers can complement skin rejuvenation treatments, like Thermage CPT or Mosaic Laser Treatment to address severe skin laxity on the face and other parts of the body, like the neck, arms, hands and legs. This will also result in overall enhancement as uneven skin pigmentation and discolouration are addressed.
Dermal Filler Cost
The cost depends on how much filler will be required based on the area that will be treated. You will be able to discuss the fees and obtain an accurate quote during your initial consultation with Dr Tyng Tan.
The consultation will allow Dr. Tan to get a closer examination of your skin and face to see how she can give you a natural change by improving the contours of your face and get rid of your wrinkles.
