Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Singapore

4 Advanced FUE Hair Transplant Technologies

While medication and other treatments can help stop or slow down hair thinning, hair transplant surgery remains the only solution to restore areas where extensive hair loss has taken place (Source).

At Aesthetics and Hair Clinic we only work with minimally-invasive FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) technique which involves the direct transfer of hair from a healthy donor area to bald or thinning areas on the head. Due to the involvement of all the important parts of the hair follicles during transplantation, there is a better chance for growth and survival.

What is Follicular Unit Extraction or FUE?

Otherwise known as follicular transfer, follicular unit extraction is one of the two important methods used by most surgeons to get follicular units, which are naturally grouped units of one to four hairs, needed for hair transplantation. On the one hand, strip harvesting or Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) is also one of the popular hair harvesting techniques considered to be more invasive in nature.

In Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), individual follicular units are directly extracted from the healthy part of the scalp, otherwise known as the donor area. This process is what defines it from FUT, with hair grafts individually extracted instead of removing a strip of skin which is then dissected into the required number of follicular units. These cherry-picked units are the building blocks of hair transplant.

Benefits of FUE

Because of its method, the FUE has multiple benefits that make it suitable for most patients who need a hair transplant.

Less Visible Scars

The biggest advantage of FUE over FUT is that it does not leave a visible linear scar on the donor area. This is despite technologies in FUT method that can help minimize visible scar. FUE, on the other hand, can result in minimal scarring on the donor area, which resembles tiny white scabs. However, such scarring is virtually invisible since it can be easily concealed as the hair grows.

More Natural-Looking

Because they were transplanted per unit, the result is as natural-looking as the hair that used to populate the scalp. Such a benefit preferred by those who do not want people to know that they actually had work done on their scalp.

Natural Hairlines

Consequently, this method helps to achieve a natural-looking hairline, since grafts are placed individually, the surgeon has more discretion with regard to its distribution.

Quick Recovery

Since there is no linear scar, recovery is relatively quicker compared with FUT. This helps patients go back to their daily routine earlier.

Neograft

Known as the modern way of performing FUE, Neograft banks on the accuracy of a machine to provide a better result for those who need a hair transplant.

Man versus Machine

the entire process still relies on surgeons who will perform the procedure. Hence, it is important to get the services of qualified surgeons who have the right training and experience in performing this modern FUE method. It is best that these surgeons have the experience in performing the traditional FUE method and backed by a list of satisfied clients.

Experience is Important

What patients need to know with hair transplant is that it is not just about the skill of the practitioner, but more on the experience that is necessary in providing the best and most natural-looking results. This is because of the intricate process of creating the recipient sites for the grafts to grow and look like the real hair of the patient. Such expertise would also produce the right angle for the transplanted hair to grow in a way the surrounding hair strands do. It also determines the shape and natural look of the hairline and most importantly, results that doesn’t necessarily reveal that surgery was done.

ARTAS

What patients need to know about hair transplant is that it is not just about the skill of the practitioner, but more on the experience that is necessary in providing good and natural-looking results. This is because of the intricate process of creating the recipient sites for the grafts to grow in a similar fashion as that of surrounding hair. It also determines the shape and natural look of the hairline and, most importantly, results that doesn’t necessarily reveal that surgery was done.

How it Works

During the consultation phase, the physician presents a customized 3D model, which shall be used to simulate the results and inform the patient of the number of grafts needed for the procedure for the process to reach its maximum potential.

After that, the physician-assisted ARTAS identifies the optimal hairs needed for the transplant. Harvesting hair grafts come next and is done with robotic precision to preserve the original look of the donor area. This is made possible by the accuracy and speed that the machine provides. The design that was presented earlier is then delivered to the robot that is under strict physician control. The next step is the site-making phase, which creates an even distribution that prevents the damage of the existing healthy hair. Last but not the least is the transplantation of the said hairs.

Benefits of ARTAS

Among the benefits of ARTAS, it would be good to know that it allows for the intelligent identification of the optimalhairs, provides quality and robust grafts, and the precise and consistent graft dissection that cannot be done manually.

Cole Isolation Technique (CIT) FUE

With the demand for hair transplants minus the scars associated with the procedure, the FUE was refined and improved to be able to provide this requirement to its patients. This gave birth to the use of specifically designed tools that remove the follicular units one by one. They are transplanted to the affected areas and expected to produce natural-looking hair.

Improvements from FUE

With the new tools developed for the treatment, the patient is set to get a less invasive procedure that does not leave behind an unsightly scar. Recovery is faster and less painful plus a lower transection rate. The hairline produced is natural-looking because of the maximized graft survival and because the physician is allowed to pick the good grafts.

It can also be done to qualified patients, including those who have a tight scalp, which used to be a deterrent with the earlier version of FUE. Plus for those who love their hair so much, there is no need to shave your head for the procedure, leaving alone the remaining healthy ones behind.

If you are considering getting an FUE hair transplant in Singapore, Dr. Tyng Tan of the Aesthetics and Hair Clinic has been trained by Dr. John Cole, the pioneer in FUE method. Dr. Tan is known for her years of experience in performing the method.
